Chuck heads to the community of Wendake in the Québec City Area to meet Isabelle Sioui, one of the few Wendat who practise porcupine trapping.
The prickly rodent has become Isabelle’s livelihood. She takes Chuck into the Tourilli forest area to show him her traditional porcupine hunting methods. As soon as they step out of the truck, they spot some porcupines near the road, and Isabelle explains how she traps them using only a stick.
Isabelle then takes Chuck to the community longhouse for some cooking.
After teaching Chuck how to prepare porcupine meat, Isabelle shows off her crafts made from the animal’s quills. Isabelle honours traditional practices—from the forest to her fingertips.
