Tsimshian traditional territory stretches from the mountains to the Pacific coast, about 700 km northwest of Vancouver. Frank and Cynthia Ridler invite Chuck to come and taste their fireweed honey, made from the local plant’s spectacular flowers.
Chuck arrives at a crucial moment, as the bees are being transferred to new hives built by the beekeepers themselves. Cynthia and Frank have spent several months preparing the move to a Slovenian-style bee house. Well acquainted with the land, Frank knows an area where fireweed grows in abundance.
Chuck meets with the staff at Kasiks Wilderness Resort, run by the Kitsumkalum community, and joins chef Amanda Munroe’s all-female kitchen team as they cook up a banquet with seasonal produce.
