Ingredients
- 3 cups of flour
- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
- 3 teaspoons of baking powder
- 2 tablespoons of salt
- 1 teaspoon of ginger
- ¼ teaspoon of cloves
- ¼ teaspoon of nutmeg
- ¾ cup of molasses
- ¾ cup of raisins
- 2 cups of brown sugar
- 2 cups of water
Instructions
- In a pan, cook the brown sugar in water until it attains a black caramel consistency.
- Carefully add water to the caramel.
- Once well mixed, add molasses.
- Mix the flour, brown sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cloves and raisins together in a large bowl.
- Once well mixed, stir in the butter with a spoon.
- Add the caramel and mix well.
- Put the mix inside a clean pillow case and place it in boiling water.
- Cook for 2 hours.
- Serve with a cream-based icing and a dash of cinnamon.
